Your Trip Inclusions:
  • Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and enjoy the guided tour, afterward enjoy a light lunch with views across the lawns to the harbour. You can also select to take the Aboriginal Heritage tour (Friday mornings only $28 per person).
  • Heritage listed Vaucluse House and Gardens offer an almost intact 19th century estate design, set in this well to do area of Sydney (although the original owner Charles Wentworth was ignored by the elite of his day). The house and Victorian kitchen garden offer a delightful insight to early life in the colony.
  • Elizabeth Farm is thought to be the earliest exotic planted garden in Australia and located close to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Parliament House where a fascinating guided tour explains the early life of the colony’s Governors.
  • En route south visit the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens where you can see over 4000 species of plants set in 416 hectares. Green Tip – you may wish to visit this park separately and enjoy the bike riding options (easy bike paths or endurance trail). You can hire bikes in Sydney (your hosts can arrange) and travel to Campbelltown Railway Station and explore the gardens by bike.
  • Arrive in Kangaroo Valley, at the heart of further exploration. Kangaroo Valley is listed by the National Trust as the region’s best example of outstanding natural beauty. Stay two nights in your own private fully self contained luxury cottage set in 16 acres of perfumed gardens surrounded by magnificent views. This property has won national sustainability and environmental awards – guided tour provided. Gourmet breakfast basket with local goodies is included. Pick the citrus fruit (June-October).
  • Explore Booderee National Park which has the only botanic gardens managed by Indigenous people in the world. Guided tour available. There are many self guided walks in the park which have stunning views of the coastline and mountain ranges.
  • Abraham’s Bosom Reserve on the Beecroft Peninsular is considered by many experts to be the regions most beautiful walk (self guided tour). Here you’ll see the delicate honeyeaters dart in and out of the native trees and shrubs as you take the coastal walk. This is a place of great significance to the Australian Aboriginal community of this region.
  • Flower festivals in Bowral (Tulip Festival end of September to early October), Canberra (Floriade mid September to mid November) and Berry (Garden Festival mid October). When the festivals are not running your may visit Yarrawa Estate for its award winning Chamboucin Rouge, pickles, chutneys and fascinating property tour. See the enchanting Meroogal House and its garden (four generations of women from the same family lived in this lovely timber house – guided tour). Or discover Bundanon, the legacy of Arthur Boyd one of Australia’s most significant painters (guided tour – open Sundays only)
  • See the stunning Fitzroy Falls and take the West Rim wild flower walk. There are two further waterfalls to see with impressive views through ancient forests to the valley below.
  • The return trip to Sydney includes award winning Minnumarra Rainforest Centre (self guided tour) with its spectacular fig trees and dainty Lyrebirds. Then the Sydney Royal National Park (Australia’s oldest) with fern gullies, its Victorian boating lake and dramatic cliff top views.
  • During your stay in Kangaroo Valley why not take a picnic of local goodies and a 1969 silver MGB you may use for a scenic drive through eucalyptus scented forests and rich pasture land.
  • Extend your stay to enjoy the local food and wine producers or travel from Canberra down to Melbourne to enjoy the heritage gardens of Victoria.
